For example, hard cooling water can cause scale buildup inside heat exchangers, seriously obstructing water flow channels and greatly reducing heat transfer efficiency. It may even lead to pitting corrosion and equipment damage. When used as boiler feed water, it can form scale on the heating surfaces of the boiler, reducing thermal conductivity. In textile dyeing and finishing, it may also cause spotting on fabrics, affecting both product appearance and quality.

The ion exchange softener works by using the exchange function of the groups in the ion exchange resin to remove hardness-causing substances such as calcium and magnesium ions from the water, thereby softening hard water. This helps reduce scale-related damage inside downstream pipelines and equipment and extends equipment service life.

After treatment by a single-stage or multi-stage softener, the water hardness can be reduced to below 2 mg/L. Once the resin becomes exhausted, it can be regenerated with sodium chloride, making operation highly convenient.
